2K Cup Win at Pukekohe!
Qualifying: 6th It was a very wet qualifying! I let my dad do most of the qualifying, and he eventually handed over the car sitting 53rd out of 92 cars. I only had time to do one lap so was stoked to put the car on P6 despite feeling there is more time to be found with more laps!
Race 1: While I focused on the Ssang Yong race, Dad had a go in the first race. He started in 6th and finished in a solid 14th, putting me 17th for Race 2.
Race 2: I went straight from a 90-minute race in the Ssang Yong Ute to a 33m race in the MR2 starting off 17th in the Reverse Grid of the fast group. I was in the second group with a 10-second delay between groups. I moved up to 10th before being pushed off by another competitor. I narrowly missed getting stuck in the sand trap before coming back onto the track a few spots down. I continued to push with consistent laps until I got up to first. As soon as I started to pull a gap, a safety car stopped this. After the safety car, I had to battle with a speedy Integra, going side by side cleanly for over half a lap. Despite it eventually pulling away, a red flag meant I still won by 0.01 seconds going back to the previous lap! A close win is still a win!
Huge thanks to my sponsors: MacClures ITM, Crème Insurance, Fair go Car Loans, and Goldwise. The round should be on SkySport and CRC Motorsport (TV3) in the near future.
Thanks to Shane and Hayden Geddes, and P&S Autocentre for getting the car ready for Pukekohe!
