PODIUM FINISH AND OVERALL ROOKIE AT MANFIELD IN THE TR86!
SECOND FASTEST IN QUALIFYING PART 1! We proved that being 2nd fastest in the last practice wasn’t a fluke as I pulled out flyer laps in the first part of qualifying with my fastest being under 1/10th of a second behind pole. I was also the fastest out of the International Motorsport Team in qualifying 1 too. The car and maybe the driver was going off in the second qualifying session, finishing 7th. Overall very pleased with the front row qualifying and my pace in the dry was definitely the highlight of the weekend.
SATURDAY RACE 1 – 3rd
Starting in P2, I got a nice start from the outside and stayed side by side into Turn 1. Unfortunately, a competitor pushed me out onto the curb after trying to make a move around the outside, resulting in me losing places fast. In 5th place, I was slowly pulling them in getting the 3rd fastest lap time of the race – also thanks to a well setup car from the International Team. A driver in front missed the brake hitting my teammate and allowing me to move up to 3rd. Fortunately, both drivers and cars were fine and they were both back on the grid for Sunday. The race resultantly finished under yellow and I was happy to take 3rd. It was amazing to be on the podium after only 3 rounds with no prior testing and having that pace in the dry.
OVERALL DEBUT REVIEW AND FUTURE IN TR86 SERIES
This was my last round in the series and I think Saturday’s performance meant we ended our debut on a high note. Coming back with a reasonably untouched car whilst battling with the top guns and being on pace from Round 1 which only got better, proved that next year I will be competitive. I must stick to my decision of only doing 3 rounds to stay a rookie and go for Rookie of the year next season. Based on my performance so far I don’t see any reason to stop at that and will be doing my best to take the overall championship too. Between, now and next season I am going to be doing some endurance races for practice.
Big Thanks to everyone who has supported me in this series. Your support is always appreciated. This includes the following:
•My Sponsors, family and friends – wouldn’t be doing what I love without you guys so cheers.
•Geoff Short – Thank you for giving me the opportunity to compete in the series. Thoroughly looking forward to next season. • International Motorsport– The team is very professional and I have learnt a tremendous amount. Their ability to transform the car based on my feedback is awesome! • Tom Alexander and Kenny Smith– Thank you for encouraging me into the series. It’s been awesome so far! Also Congratulations Kenny Smith on your 47th Grand Prix. It was great to watch.
